A whirlwind of change
It has been a long while since we have updated our blog, so I will try to sum up the changes of the last year and a half in short.
The summer of 2010 saw some big changes in our ministry. Do to the lack of indigenous leadership, and after much prayer, we decided to end our Highland House church plant. There were many tears, but looking back from where we are now, we made the right decision. Also in the summer of 2010, our director Bob Stevenson, handed the reigns of leadership over to our good friend and fellow missionary, Andrew Lee.
The fall of 2010 saw changes in our church plant team. Our leader, Renee, was given time to transition out of church planting before her and her family moved on from Chester. We then found out that God would be bringing a new family to join our team, Glen, Sharon, Morgan and Micah Geraghty, who were then serving in Watts.
Our whole team was emotionally drained after some very stressful events that happened between 2008 and 2012. Vicki was especially feeling drained. Andrew and other members of leadership with World Impact felt it would be good to take some time of rest and reflection with member care staff in Wichita, KS.
So in Jan. 2011 we made our way out to Kansas. On our way we were also able to visit World Impact, St. Louis. This trip became a turning point for us. We were able to talk through many of the things we had experienced in ministry, both positive and negative, as well as look at our strengths and gifts. After this time Vicki felt God leading her to step down from a primary roll in church planting.
When we returned to Chester, Vicki began helping Andrew with administrative tasks at the office and found that she really enjoyed it. She especially enjoyed collecting stories and pictures for the World Impact bulletins and other related publications.
In June 2011 the Geraghty's joined us in Chester. With Glen's leadership we have begun focusing on planting simple churches and focusing on developing the indigenous leaders for those churches. Our team developed a charter with the following vision: By the Spirit of God we will empower community leaders to lead reproducible simple churches.
In October 2011 we moved into Highland Gardens, an exciting change that we will write more about soon.
That pretty much brings us up to date ministry-wise. In another post we will include more details of what we are doing currently.
