Survey Day 3
Yesterday we began surveying on our street. Each time we survey we meet new people and find out new information about our community. The first house that opened the door for us belonged to Rick and Debbie. After answering our questions, Rick invited us in. We prayed for him and Debbie and then they invited us over to their house in the evening to a barbecue. When we came back for the barbecue we found them very open and gracious. We learned more about them and look forward to stopping by again. Both seem open to the gospel and we hope that further connections with them will continue to see them soften to the gospel.
Quite a few people that we talk to do not interact much with the community around them. They go to work and come home, many go to church outside of Chester. Some don’t want to bring bad influences into their house, others are afraid that bad things could happen to them or their house if they got to know more people. It is sad to see people not wanting to interact with others in their community. Many of them have gifts and abilities that could help contribute positively in the community. We pray that through continued interaction with them and prayer, that their hearts will change.
Another observation that we made was that many of the people in the houses closest to ours were new in the community. One lady, Kim, though she was new, seemed to know her closest neighbors by character and by name. She goes to church in Philadelphia where most of her connections still are, but she is someone that we will want to keep in touch with as she is getting to know our neighbors well.
Every time we step out our doors to survey, we meet new people and learn new info about our community. We look forward to continuing our survey throughout the summer.
