October Prayer Letter
October
1, 2013
Dear
Friends,
We
are amazed to see how God continues to show us His vision for church
planting in Chester. Our heart is to see families loving God and
each other and bringing God’s Kingdom to their communities. Our
church plant team is made up of our family and Glen and Sharon
Geraghty and their children, Morgan and Micah. Over the last year
our team has developed relationships with a variety of families and
individuals.
Since
August, we have spent much time in prayer over the direction God
would have us to go and we sense that God is leading us to bring
these people together to start a church. Our goal is to start with a
small group Bible study and maintain strong relationships that are
focused on discipleship. Brenda, Alpha, and Vern are some of the key
people that we are hoping to invite to be part of our church plant.
Brenda
was open to us from the first day that she met us. Even though she
speaks little English, she perseveres through conversations, often
with the help of her daughter. Brenda desires to be an agent of
change in our community, to find a way to keep the kids off the
streets.
Alpha
welcomed us into her house the first day we met and every day since.
This past Tuesday we were out walking and stopped by Alpha’s house.
Her daughter invited us in and we spent at least a half hour
fellowshipping with Alpha, her daughter Erica, and her granddaughter.
After much fun and laughter, it was time to go, but before we left
Tom prayed with Alpha, and she asked if we knew a place where she
could go to church.
Vern
has been facilities manager at the Frederick Douglass Christian
School since 1997. He grew up in Chester and attended FDCS when it
was the black junior high school. In the spring of this year he
began attending a men’s Bible study with Tom and Glen. Through
this time he reconnected with God, and desires to see a men’s
ministry started.
We
are encouraged by the vision that God is giving us to start a church
with these wonderful folks and others He has brought across our path.
Please
pray:
- That we will continue to seek God’s direction and leading for starting this church plant.
- That as a team we will be living examples of what it means to be the Church.
In
Him,
Tom,
Vicki, Lizzy, and Lilly Anthony
