Pray Hard!
Yesterday I stood in the cold knocking on Alpha's door. There were two cars in the driveway, but no answer. This was the second week in a row that we have stopped by with no response. Most likely everyone was upstairs and couldn't hear me, but I still walked away downcast. I look forward to our weekly visits and I know that she does too.
I texted her last night to let her know we had stopped by. When she responded she told us that she has been working everyday and will continue working everyday up until December 30. My heart sank when I heard this. Alpha works third shift with Mondays and Tuesdays as her day off. She has been struggling with not having time to spend with her family and friends and not being able to go to church on the weekends. She was also looking forward to coming to our Christmas Eve service.
We have been praying fervently for God to work a miracle with Alpha's schedule so that she can spend more time with her family. This set back was discouraging, but was also a reminder that we are involved in an intense spiritual battle for the hearts and souls of this city. We have seen many people who, like Alpha, have expressed interest in our church then have situations come up to distract or discourage them. God is calling us to remain faithful and to be praying hard for each and every person He wants to bring to this church.
In the thick of this battle I had begun to doubt the calling and vision God has given us for this church. Tom and I spent time in prayer with Him today and afterward He sent some encouragement. I called a friend and invited her and her husband to our Christmas Eve service. I could hear excitement in her voice as I shared with her about the service. Tom also shared about the service with one of our homework club families and the grandmother also seemed excited about coming to the Christmas Eve service.
Join with us in fervent prayer over the hearts and lives of those people He is calling to be part of this church. Pray that a way would be found for Alpha and others to attend our Christmas Eve service and find there the joy and peace that only God can give!
