A Beautiful Weekend!

This weekend we enjoyed the beautiful weather as we spent time in our community.

On Friday I (Vicki) found out that our neighborhood was having a community clean-up, so at 10am on Sat I packed Lizzy and Lilly in the stroller and headed to the meeting place in the center of Highland Gardens. Along with ten to fifteen others we spread out and picked up trash in our neighborhood.  I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting neighbors as we joined together to care for our streets.  The mayor also stopped by and community members were able to point out where people had been dumping behind their houses.  We hope his awareness will get the site cleaned up.

Brianna cleaning up
After a while the girls got fussy and we headed home.  When we got their we found Brianna, a girl who had been part of Bible and teen clubs, cleaning the street next to our house.  While we were outside a group of people from a friend's church, Life in Christ Cathedral of Faith, stopped by.  They were handing out lunches and praying for people in our community.  While they were praying for our family and church plant, Lizzy came up and held my hand.  We were blessed by their provision of lunch and encouraged by their prayers!  After they left I invited Brianna in for lunch and we had a good time catching up.

Making play doh creations
Later that day while I was doing some yard work some kids from neighborhood stopped by.  They enjoyed playing with dinosaurs in the yard and making creations with play-doh.  They stopped by again on Sunday and Monday.

While we were at church on Sunday we invited our friends Elena and Dawn to join us for a cook out on Monday.  We had a wonderful time hanging out and enjoying the beautiful weather!

Monday evening Tom and I were enjoying the evening sitting in our back yard and had a good conversation with a gentleman who had ridden his bike past our yard a number of times.

This weekend was a reminder of why we love living here in Chester.  We enjoying spending time in our community and opening our house as a place of fellowship and peace.  We hope this is a start to a wonderful summer of sharing Christ with our community.
